German corned beef is very different to British corned beef. It’s low in fat and has a better flavour. Gram for gram it probably costs more than the British version, but it’s definitely the superior option.
Back in the UK, I rarely bought tins of corned beef. Even a top brand like Princes is around 13.5% fat. It’s also nearly 25% protein, and that’s definitely a good thing, but every time I ate it I worried about what all that fat was doing to my cholesterol level and had nightmares about it clogging up my arteries. I like lean meat. Always have and always will. German corned beef is much more to my taste. It’s 20% protein and only 4% fat. I see that as being quite a healthy option and I never dreamed I’d be saying a thing like that about corned beef.
